I stopped in on a Saturday for lunch while in the area and I have to admit that I was pretty impressed with the Wooden Nickel Pub & Grill, overall the experience was good seating is mostly limited to high-top tables, with only a handful of regular tables inside. Overall the food options were very limited, sticking with mostly sandwiches and wings, however the options were solid. As far as the food goes I went with the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, served with Sweet Potato Fries. The sandwich was good however the chicken breast itself was rather small, the fries were tasty. I was able to sample a bit of the fish and it was very good and extremely reasonable price, it was less than $7 and served with slaw. Overall this is a great option for historic downtown Glen Carbon, however I have a feeling that after hours the crowd shifts to a more loud atmosphere.

Fun little neighborhood sports pub. Nice patio in back too. The lobster rangoon apps were tasty. Big selection of craft beers. Husband loves the deep fried green beans too. I recommend it for a fun sports pub experience.

This is a cool fun place to watch the game. It looks very retro inside. They only have one bathroom and it has one stool. I thought this was alittle odd. I was looking for a Bloody Mary. The drink was decent, but it had lemons and limes for the garnish. Hmmmm I asked where were the olives, and the server brought me some in a bowl.....Hmmmm Okay. I pierced them with my straw and stirred them into my drink. I ordered the chicken thai wraps. They were cut into bite size pieces which had ranch and a spicy dipping sauce. There were very delicious.

Pretty good pub fare. I had the pulled pork sandwich; the pork was very tender and the bbq sauce was decent, if lacking a little flavor. My wife had the Frisco melt and said it was good, too.

A nice little gem nestled in the gem of a town of Glen Carbon. The Nickel is relatively close to where I work so it is very convenient for a quick bite to eat. But please do not let that fool you. Every meal I have had at this establishment is top notch Pub and Grill deliciousness. After reading some of these reviews on here my next visit will have the nachos as its main course.. They Sound Yummy.

Been here before and the experience was great. Came back for second time today, was immediately greeted, and drinks were ordered (just ice teas). Waited over 15-20 minutes and the waitress never brought our drinks or took our order. She continued to wait on her other tables without a glance at us. The restaurant was not full at 2:30 pm on a Saturday, maybe 4 or 5 tables tops with people sitting at the bar as well. We ended up walking out. Will probably not be back.

On my first trip to Wooden Nickel Pub, I was underwhelmed, but I didn't lose heart. No, I returned and this time was better prepared to enjoy the giant deliciousness that is the Wooden Nickel Nachos. I feel as though the words epic and nachos have been used hundreds, millions even, of times together. But those words have never rung truer in my life than when I encountered the nachos at the Wooden Nickel Pub. They have delicious seasoned chicken, tomatoes, jalapeños, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and olives. They are huge, and due to their deliciousness, I took only 2 bites of my actual burger because I was stuffed to the brim with nachos. Easily a shared meal for two, these nachos are wonderfully satisfying...and messy. The rest of the food I've encountered here is just ordinary (burger, pork wrap, pulled pork sandwich, fried pickles), but I love the atmosphere here. It is a small town place where you can meet up with friends, enjoy some beer, and watch the game. My final comment is to say that the service here is slightly lacking. The wait staff never seems to be available when you need them, and you see them chatting or texting near the bar area, instead. My overall opinion of the Wooden Nickel is to give it a 3.5, because it is the kind of place you just want to go back to despite mediocre food (aside from the nachos) and sometimes poor service.

We went there tonight for dinner and drinks. The food was good, we had fried pickle app, frisco melt, and a grilled chicken sandwich. However,,,, the service was horrible. Our server was more interested in talking to her boyfriend than doing her job. I was very frustrated and pretty sure all the tables around us were as well. In my opinion service is what makes the dining experience. If you are looking for good food and some service, maybe sit at the bar or go in the day when the owner is there. She is great!

What a great place. The food is great and the service is awesome. Brittany suggested the best appetizers and sandwiches. The guacamole dips are the best. Thanks Brittany your the greatest! The RI guys.

From Chicago and this place had the best service we have experienced in some time. The staff is outstanding and the drinks are even better. You have to visit it if you pass through.

I didn't know if I wanted to spoil this place by putting it on yelp for all of the yelp kingdom to be able to find it, but I decide to go ahead. I visited The Wooden Nickel last night with some friends after work to get a drink. It was a Thursday night so it wasn't crowded. The servers were nice and the place has a nice homey feel to it. And since the place is pretty much in my backyard I could get trashed and walk home if I wanted. The patio is really nice. There is a huge flat screen out there that we were able to watch and there is plenty of seating. Inside there is a juke box with about a million songs on it. We got there too late to have any food but I'm defiantly going back to try it sometime! If you are looking for a bar that's not too loud or quiet, that you can just hang out at with out being looked at weird cause you're not a regular, then visit the Wooden Nickel! You won't be let down!

Don't go on a Friday night if you want service. . . Apparently 9:30 on a Friday isn't an acceptable time for a drink refill.

This was my 5th or 6th visit since this place opened. Everyone in my group agreed that the quality of food has begun to slip. With so many dining options available locally, I do not plan to return for grub. That being said, the selection of craft beer is still good. If all you need is a bit of libation, keep the Wooden nickel on your radar.

I fell in love with this place. The atmosphere is welcoming. Smells and looks clean. Our server was nice and helpful with suggestions. We ordered the lobster rangoon appetizer. It was surprisingly wonderful. I ordered the Asian pork wrap which also was better than I was expecting. I love visiting this place. It just feels homey. They also have a patio which is nice. The beer and wine selections are great too. Owners did a great job with this place!

Just found out this place recently. It's in a nice new building in downtown Glen Carbon. Good atmosphere, and friendly staff and patrons. The nachos are giant! Be ready to share those. Burgers and sandwiches are good, too.

Cool interior but needs to be larger. Prices are high and not much food. A salad and a drink will cost you $12 easily for lunch. You can't mess up a salad, but not impressed with this place, and they can mess up a salad. I've been there twice and do not plan to go back. Both times I was not impressed.

Great place. Great atmosphere. Best hot wings in town. Pretty sure they introduced the guacamole bites to the area. I didn't see them at other places in the area till after they had it on their menu. And they are delicious. It comes with a jalapeno ranch which is also awesome. The walnut salad it's really good too. The tacos on taco Tuesday's are good and at a great price. The owner is super nice and fun. She is great and willing to work with you. We had an event there and she was great to work with. Her bartenders are good also. The girls have always given us great service. Love going to this place. Definitely a must stop for visitors in town.

Outstanding environment. Converted old building with all ceiling pipes and air ducts visible. The place was exceptionally clean during my visit. I had a huge cheeseburger, definitely made to order. Sides were also plentiful. Great place to take an existing client or colleague!

Stopped here for the first time and was really impressed by the whole experience. Right away when you walk in all the wood work really catches your eye and the place appears to be super clean. All the staff was super nice and it has just a great feel to the place. The menu has a good selection and the prices are pretty good on about everything. I ordered the fish sandwich which was cooked perfect and it came with fries and slaw. The fries were awesome and the slaw was pretty different from most but really good. This was a really good place to eat and have a few drinks and we will for sure be back soon. Keep up the good work.

Great food, wonderful staff, occasional live music that's not too loud. I personally hate live music while I eat because every musician seems to be deaf, but it's not intolerable here. I do avoid the place when the artist shows up. My kids love their food. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
